missing in action

listen the whirring blades
chop chop chopping motors
the daring escapades
over the fields and glades
the heat of explosions
the force of wind that fades
returning from tirades
ghostly chopping motors
flying for decades
again again in raids
fraught with meaningless rage
in the fields of all dreaming

honor way to war
no matter what the peaceniks think
honor wages war
forever on the brink
i lost my honor long ago
in youngsters' blood that flowed

Kerry Runs For President

dole scratch that
kerry sat upon rozinante
his drinking straw of a lance in hand
im going to flow like a bottle of tipped chiante
in a quest to unseat the beastly band
retake control over the hotdog stand
for who controls wieners controls the final ante
so saying he and mount wobbled into the fray
filling the mouth of the beast like gooey candy

If there must be ticks
There must be tocks
Say all the straight-laced clocks
And they tick
And they tock
And they tock tick
Tock tick all day long
Sing their only song
To anyone or nothing
All day long
Tick tock tick tock
Wish I had a scat singing clock:
"Too ya dootin tock a doodle ee oo oo
Wow Tock a tickie toodlee ock to you"

your intelligent  eyes
connect like a sudden prize
dispelling my lackluster day
together we shall romp
and parade in righteous pomp
until the world smiles at our play

she gave me all her love
there was no light above
and the sun rays came breaking through
she took me to her heart
she bade the pain depart
and i felt my whole life renewed
and what she gives to me
she in turn does receive
now we shall never be alone
when storm clouds do squall
and the hail and thunder stall
we smile as if the sun has shone
we shelter with our love
there is no force above
there is no force below thats known
i pledge to you my life
humbled youre my wife
amazed at the way we both have grown

slow train

there's a slow train moving
through the fields of iowa
through the orchards out west
and the lands of the kiowa
it's chugging on magic wheels
over a carpet of flowers
straight through the heartland
to a rendezvous with silver towers

do you

do you praise the prisons
that hold us from loving
do you fail to see that missions
are bestowed by living

Monday, March 21, 2011

circles and stands
and applauding hands
and apples hanging golden in the sun
bad crinkled eyes
survey the skies
and praise the stars that everythings been done

in the graveyard of billions of phones
sans dial and the dreaded busy tones
there's a dynamic at work
of gluttens gone all berserk
and when some aliens rovers chance here to land
they'll marvel at the texture and depth of the sand

i dance

i dance along the cove
the waltz of the hours
dancing with the wolves
the mushrooms and the flowers
dancing like the wind
coaxing the gentle one that cowers
coming not to rest
next dancing with the rain showers

you dont owe a thing to me
sing from your cell on high

the antlers in the meadow

the antlers in the meadow
calmly serenely enchant the eye
the memory of the meadow in later years
where those antlers had to die
i wish i had taken the gun
i wish i had no reason to cry

you the titanic and the iceburgs

bambis mama died for your sins my friends
and jim jones of murder most foul
one cannot divest potatoes of skins
nor great gods features of its scowl

the coat of the ages

i wear the coat of the ages
stained with gore
animal and human
fashioned of chain mail, leather and silk
and great buttons of whalebone
inlaid gold
i stand astride the oceans
wondering which nations to smite next

curious destiny

curious destiny
one old man
one old chair
one bad tv
one bed
one hospice
one iv

his past
a garden grew
a mothers hugs
wartime cast
wines of love
and babies
not to last

moments of gold
leaves and gutters
cold gray eyes
halls of mammon fold
cool walls of brown
nights like spider coves
a heart grown small and old

uncurious destiny
uncurious cold
inattentive hospice
veil over the sea
are there gardens
families in love
yes but none for thee

a silver certain mountain

can you see a silver certain mountain
hung across the cerulian sky
its tip a forbidding shroud
its base a confusion of if and why
can you hunker there on icy promontory
for a blink of eternal eye
as you prepare to answer before you slip and die

the dogs of black and white
eat your purple monstrous soul
as raw soldiers of the night
ram down the light pole
to launch their missiles from darkness
you eat quivering meat

i greet the day

i greet the day
as time comes strolling in
on feet of gray
and the sun's old bald head
throws beams my way
so slick n shiny 'tis

new sky leaks dew
wet shoes in fields of grass
a block then two
brings me to the hill i love
as the sky turns blue
my spirit soars with the birds

ponder the moon

i ponder the moon
i live on earth like a rat
ponderous balloon
make me feel like a gnat
if i could board that silver rocket
inside of some astronauts pocket
i could take a shit on the moon

The Lillies of the Moon

The lillies of the moon
Await in the far side gloom
Cold as mushrooms
Final as tombs

Salute John Galt

Salute John Galt
He's selfish to a fault
If his mother's in a moat
He could just let her float
It depends on the "I", you see
Altruist is heresy

i would dream with ponies
running wild across steppes
whipping mains flowing tails
fresh off winter's vile grips
never seeing a man
dumb to all chains and whips

i saw a god

i saw a god with a rifle and i wondered: who's to bleed?
i went into seclusion and meditated in my pool of blood.
i saw a woman behind a plow planting seeds of love:
i saw her children, naked skeletons in the furrowed ground.
i went into the city where i saw mountains of men
walking like rats over mountains of men
i looked to the desert for an answer but found my eyes blocked with sand

I Don the Body Electric

I don the body electric
becoming cool and metric
My actions so eclectic
I fairly ooze into a space
My actions all cool and tantric
Make others pithecantric
Til friend Joe nails my antic
"Hey cool dude you forgot your face"

The wind drifts blew o'er a mountain road
Across the canyon and sky
Who knows how much snow that old storm blowed
Before the wind chanced to die
In its wake a helicopter showed
The great machine seemed to sigh
Beneath the blades where it chose to slow
Lay a car flipped on its side
A crewman spoke on the radio
A man and wife crashed and died
On a black branch rested a scornful crow
Come to mock the baleful sky

But I'm Old

I felt tears for your sadness
I could become maudlin for a day
But I'm old I need gladness
Forgive if I go another way
For we've just met in passing
I'm innocent of love or passion

A Poem

Sonic boom standing still
Cars on the freeway zooming by
Butterfly hanging nil
Rose speeding vast across the sky

Snavely's Walrus

You are George's fiery dragon
You are Hannibal's
Tons of animals
You are the horse before the wagon
You have the teeth and hair
Of a famous dancing bear
I am Snavely's walrus

Thanksgiving Poem

beaks clipped their toes cut
frankenstein breasts jut
turkeys to glut your pleasure
dreaming of franklin's words
would be national birds
await the death man's measure

Your boat's a silver swift moon
Quicksilver thistle in a sea of dew
A fairy fiddle of a tune
Played in your heart when roses were blue

When First I Learned How to Write

I wrote the stars into my small universe
When first I learned how to write
Hung a moon a dot to keep the writing terse
Scrawled the planets' orbits tight
A symphony written out in cosmic verse
Caught in your reflected light

While Cleaning Bricks

While cleaning bricks, all on a chill, dewy, day,
I chanced on a spider, haughty, hopping, grey;
I'd chanced on a monarch regally serene,
Who rarely let trespassers get through her screen.
She eyed me with all her eyes, her body'd spin
The second my hand or body twitched their skin.
"I want only to clean off the mold," I said.
She did not reply, for she just wanted me dead
And saw no reason to speak with Meat Mountain,
As she called the man on pressure wash fountain.
I left her still challenging on carpet green.

The Night is Like a Diamond

The night is like a diamond
Each day is like a pearl
Adiaphorous but for the gun
Playful like a squirrel

The gulls become winged bullets
At the bat of an eye
Spitting out fire from their gullets
Before they even try

Mama has then her ten children
Bathed and ready to dine
Winged bullets speed to kill them
Tase their spirits divine

The night is like a diamond
Each day is like a pearl
Adiaphorous but for the gun
Playful like a squirrel

Late Middle Age

I still hang my hat upon the hour
As though I were a young man
I carry my lady a flower
Wearing a vase for a hand
There's a goldenrod in the shadow
A meadow lark in the sun
There's a smile for my lady willow
And the morrow's race to run

The Splash

I paused for a splash
Of ten white ducks on a pond
I took the splash home

A Friend, a Square Wheel

I saw an old friend today
He was drivin' the other way
Heard a beep then "Hey!"
Was all he had time to say
Glad I saw the friend today
Sad he went the other way

I went into the grocery store
Got a square wheel basket at the door
I tried to push it on the floor
But abandoned thankless chore
Didn't buy too much at the store
Left the square wheel basket at the door

I saw an old friend today
Got a square wheel basket at the store
Friend was drivin' the other way
I abandoned thankless chore
Glad I saw the friend today
Left the square wheel basket at the door
